How Does Rogaine / Regaine Really Work?

Note: Rogaine and Regaine refer to the same product. The brand name Rogaine is used in the United States and Canada while the brand name Regaine is used in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

This is one of the only hair loss treatments that has been approved by the FDA and has been proven time and time again through scientific and clinical studies to regrow hair. If you are looking for a product that will work for you, then this is a product that you can confidently try.

The active ingredient in this product is Minoxidil, which was originally marketed as a high blood pressure tablet called Loniten. Some users of the product began to report strange side effects such as the growth of hair on the hands, cheeks and even forehead. Chemists went back to the labs and began to experiment with producing the drug as a topical lotion. They were successful and the product was released onto the market and scalps of some very happy customers.

Around 85 per cent of users see good results from using the product twice a day. With continued use it is possible to regain lost hair and see thicker and stronger hair growing on the head. It will not work overnight, but most users will begin to see results within 90 days. In order to keep the growth you must continue using the product or results will be lost within 3 to 6 months.

Minoxidil is a vasodilator, so it is thought that the treatment works by stimulating the blood flow to the scalp thereby improving the hair growth cycle and helping the body to produce thicker hairs from the follicle. It seems that the product helps to prolong the growth phase of the hair and keep it in the resting phase longer, before it falls out. More recent studies have also indicated that it helps the body to produce PGHS 1 (prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase-1), which stimulates hair growth.

There are products available to treat male pattern baldness as well as female hair loss and products are available in 2% and 5% strengths. It is a very safe product to use, with only minor side effects such as mild itching or skin irritation to the scalp in a few instances.

If you begin using the product as soon as you notice hair loss, then you will experience better results than if you leave treatment until the problem is very noticeable. It sometimes works better on younger patients or when hair is thinning rather than pronounced bald spots. If your bald spot is less than 10cm wide you are more likely to experience good results.

Rogaine / Regaine has been proven to work through several scientific studies and millions of happy customers around the world. It is the only non prescription hair loss treatment that has been approved by the FDA. Try it, and you have everything to gain.
