Hair loss in men is an accepted form of aging in today’s society however, the same is not true of the same affliction in women. Whilst we seem a long way from being able to switch these follicles back on, there are many treatments and help available.
The first thing to understand with any such condition is that it will, in almost all cases, be a temporary condition. It will most likely be due to discrepancies with your diet or lifestyle. It could also be caused by stress, so try to take a look at your general well being as a first step.
If the condition continues, you should be careful not to trawl the web for a miracle cure; there are no such things. However, it would be wise to consult your physician, as hair loss can be caused by hormone fluctuations in the body, or an autoimmune disease. In some cases of course, the condition could be genetic, so family history will most likely need to be looked into.
Whilst it was initially designed to treat high blood pressure, the drug Minoxidil has seen some successes. Coming in the form of a lotion, this can be applied directly to the scalp. However, it is important to note that only twenty percent of women see significant improvements. A further forty percent can also experience success; though at a far lesser degree.
The lotion is also only successful for younger women, between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, and needs to be part of your daily routine to continue working. If treatment is topped suddenly, hair loss will recur quite quickly and could be more dramatic than before.
Many people manage to cope with the condition through the use of wigs or hair thickening lotions and shampoos however; surgery can be elected to be performed in extreme circumstances. Such a decision should only be taken with appropriate guidance however, and after long thoughtful consideration.
Whilst surgery is an option, it is naturally invasive and needs careful consideration. There are two main options for such treatment; Hair transplant and Scalp reduction. Each treatment requires painful procedures, where the scalp is either punched with holes and hair sewn in from other parts of the body, or skin is stretched and moved around the scalp respectively.
Finally, if you are suffering from hair loss, it is important to understand that things such as washing, coloring, combing and brushing are in no way linked to the condition. The hair is a resilient part of the human body, and takes a lot of external influences to affect its condition.
