Things That Cause Women’s Hair Loss

by Harry Regan on 21/10/2009

Hair loss can be upsetting for anyone but think of how a woman feels when it happens to them. Most women try to maintain the look of their hair as it is a large part of their overall appearance. When they have hair loss many of them are very despondent. There are things that can cause this to happen more often than others and we will talk about a few of them now.

For hair to grow well it requires a number of different vitamins and minerals. Iron is one of the most important of these when it comes to a women’s hair. If a woman is anemic or has other reasons for having low levels of iron in their bodies then their hair is not getting enough nutrients to grow properly, which in turn results in the hair loss that they are seeing.

Talking to your doctor can help you find out if this could be the cause of your problem and if so there are things that he can advise you of that will help correct the situation.

Menopause can also be known to cause hair loss in women. The changes of the estrogen in the body can affect many things and your hair is not exempt from being one of them. Once this is determined to be the cause and corrective action has been taken, the hair loss stops and things generally return to normal. This can also be found to happen in women after giving birth, but usually corrects itself over the course of a few months.

Women that are under a lot of stress can also be at risk of hair loss. Major surgeries are one such stressful event that can cause this to happen to them. This is something that you need to talk to the doctor about as well. They will monitor what is occurring and know what an appropriate way to deal with the situation is. Many times the hair starts to grow again within a few months of the surgery but if not they can help find out the answers to the situation you are experiencing.

Medications are another common cause of hair loss. There are a lot of side effects that medications have and hair loss is a common one for women when it comes to some of them. This can be temporary, but if not talking to your doctor is the best thing to do. They may be able to change the medication that you are on to something else that will not affect you in this way. Unfortunately a side effect is not known until the medication has been used by a person.

These are some of the most common triggers for hair loss in women. If this is something that you are currently dealing with, it is important that you talk to your doctor to see about finding the cause of the problem. Many times it is a small change that can make the difference.
