Tanning Your Skin

by admin on 15/06/2009

It is quite normal for people who like to have a tan all year round to use tanning booths throughout the year. It is the number of cases of skin cancer caused by too much exposure to the sun that has led to this rise in alternative but safer methods. One of these newer methods is called sunless tanning which can be carried out at specialist salons or at regular beauty establishments. There are creams and lotions called bronzers that will give you an artificial tan as well, but the spray tan seems to give better results with less streaking.

Although the popularity is still to be proved, systems using the new spray tanning technology have been designed for home use. While there are different ways to provide an alternative tan, the way to achieve it and make it longer lasting are the same. Probably the most important aspect and the first one to carry out is getting rid of the dead skin on your body by exfoliating. If this isn’t done, dead skin will gradually drop off leaving odd, light patches and spoil the effect.

Once that stage has been completed, the body needs to be moisturized all over. Once you have done this you will be ready to apply the tanning lotion or cream but remember to wear latex gloves as long applications mean that the tanning solution coats the hands producing an orange effect on the palms which everyone can see. To avoid any other application mistakes that could give away the fact that the tan is not real, make sure those fingers, feet, elbows and knees are only given the lightest of coats as they have a habit of coming out darker. After a spray tanning application you will want to use a towel to remove any excess that may drip and run.

Once the tanning agent (whatever type you have used) has been applied you will need to have somewhere to relax and not move while the coating dries or small smear marks might occur. Agents of all types will leave stains on your clothing almost as soon as you put them on so consider what you intend to wear once you have finished. Obviously darker clothing is the best option so the staining will not be as visible, and if possible, something that you will not worry about if it gets damaged. If you remember these few rules you should find that alternative systems can be very effective and look just like the real thing.
